Debra Graetz is a professional oil painter based in the Boardman Neighborhood of Traverse City. Her work is rooted in the tradition of plein air painting—creating art outdoors, immersed in the natural light and atmosphere of the moment. Though large painting they are often done alla prima, completed all at once as the sun drops. Debra is drawn to the views of the massive freshwater bays. Many of her pieces are done on summer evenings where she often sets up her easel to capture the shifting light of the bay and the serenity of the sunset. Works are done to capture the luminescence and the radiance by working fast and directly representing the light changes happening in the moment. Each painting reflects a life's glow experienced in real time—an invitation to appreciate the landscapes that surround us.
